ity Administration officials closed the luxurious Arcadia Flats apartment complex in the district of Sunset yesterday afternoon, having evicted or arrested all of its remaining residents. City Administration spokesman Aldric Langlais said in a statement that Arcadia Flats had been under investigation for months and that LCPD had produced evidence of the building being used as a base for criminal enterprises in the city, and that no one who still lived in the complex was "completely clean," though he added that only a small percentage of its residents had actually been arrested.
The Laurentian Observer posted on its blog this morning that an anonymous witness had seen a search warrant delivered to one of the units in the Arcadia Flats complex, and that it had accused the residents of the unit in question of simply "harbouring an unregistered organization." More importantly, the witness stated, the notice bore the name and signature of City Administrator Albert Kojima, who has not been seen in public for several months now.
The closure of the Arcadia Flats complex is perhaps the strongest public action yet taken under the authority of the Citizen Safety and Protection Act, which was passed by both houses of Parliament last summer and signed into law immediately. Critics of the law have stated that it effectively gives the City Administration unlimited power without any checks on its authority. Supporters have said that such strong measures are necessary to ensure Laurentian stability as turmoil and unrest spreads across the globe. An LCPD spokesman was unwilling to comment on this story when contacted, only saying that "sensitive legal matters are an issue for the authorities to resolve privately."
